Salt (2/2): [On using the home conditions] I wouldn't want to face them (Woakes and Cook) here, to be quite honest with you. You know, Southern Brave had some good bowlers as well, but in terms of being suited to the conditions, Woakesy and Cook could be a bit of a nightmare. You take a look at both of them with the new ball. I mean, happy to be on the same team as them, but they have so much fun. [On the team set-up] That was sort of part of the challenge from the start. But I loved the idea of the upside of putting a team together that could play in Cardiff. It's pleasing to get these results early, but as I say, I can't be pleased for too long because there's a lot of cricket still to play. [Thoughts on the Cardiff crowd?] It's always a good crowd here. I'm just pleased we're winning. And hopefully that's an extra bit of motivation for people to come down and support us and hopefully watch us get another win here. I'm really happy with where we're at, and, you know, hopefully we continue in our remaining three games.

Phil Salt | Welsh Fire captain (1/2): [How tough was that surface?] Yeah, absolutely. Fresh ones in Cardiff, probably every batter's worst nightmare, to be honest. I thought Stoinis played unbelievably well for them, and Shorty just as good. So, really pleased to come away with the win. [Second on the table now?] There's a lot of cricket left to play. This is probably the best, you know, sort of Welsh Fire team that's ever been set up to play games in Cardiff. So, it's pleasing that we're getting the results at home. [Half-time message during the chase?] It was sort of a game of stick and twist in a lot of ways. You know, your guys who are more explosive, you sort of back them to knock bowlers off the lengths. But then in the middle order, in the engine room, you've got a lot of guys who are very good at rotating strike, getting off, that sort of thing. So, you've got to be really clear about the plans. I think that was the main thing. But the guys who are explosive, they've got to go win you the game in as few balls as possible. And the guys who are good at putting the percentages their way and playing longer style innings, do that.

Matthew Short | Match Hero: (On his innings)It's nice and tough early here at Cardiff. Pretty spicy and some pretty quick bowlers that get some nice bounce, especially out here. So, yeah, it's a bit of a grind early. Nice to bat second, you get a bit of dew and a bit of skid off the wicket, but yeah, I was happy with that. (On the conversations at the halfway mark and on his particular plan?) I think just red-ball length, you know, Test length. It was nipping around early. So, Salty and I, as openers, were probably aware of that and were probably thinking that's what they were going to come hard at us with. It's probably similar to most innings here - just grind early, play good shots, and hopefully the seam wears off, the shine wears off, and it gets a bit easier. (On their bowlers who set up the win for them) Yeah, just class. As I said, they just hit a length, let the ball do the talking, let the wicket do the talking, and got us off to a great start and gave us a nice total to chase down there.

It's their fourth win in five matches, lifting them to second on the points table, behind Trent Rockets only on NRR. They have put themselves in an outstanding position, not only to qualify but also to give themselves a genuine shot at finishing top of the table and booking a direct place in the final. Meanwhile, it's an uphill task for Southern Brave now. Winning their final two matches is a must, and even then they will be relying on other results to keep their playoff hopes alive. Talking about the run chase, Welsh lost Phil Salt very early, but Matt Short and Joe Root stitched together a 56-run stand for the second wicket on a spicy surface against a quality pace attack. Root, Rachin Ravindra, and Jordan Cox departed in quick succession, but Short found the perfect ally in Tom Kohler-Cadmore, who chipped in with an useful 23*. Short, though, was the architect of the chase, remaining unbeaten on 60 off just 41 balls.
