That wraps up our coverage of this memorable Test match. We hope you enjoyed every moment of it! Don't forget to hop over to our other tab, where India is taking on Sri Lanka at Galle. From all of us here, goodbye and take care...
What a fantastic victory, forever etched into the folklore of Bangladesh cricket! Bangladeshi fans across the globe will be over the moon celebrating this historic milestone. Their pace bowling attack has improved drastically over the years, and even without their strike weapon Nahid Rana, they have done brilliantly to dismantle a formidable Australian lineup in their own backyard. This win has boosted their chances in the World Championship table. Bangladesh gained 12 crucial away points, boosting their PCT (points percentage) to 66.67% to solidify 4th place and put them within reach of the top three. Meanwhile, Australia's loss of 12 home points caused their top-spot PCT (points percentage) to drop to 77.78%, shrinking their safety margin ahead of a demanding Test schedule ahead, which includes 5 away Tests against India.
Shanto (2/2): (On Tanzid's century) Yeah, obviously I think he's exciting. If you look at his white ball game, he always plays attacking cricket. But in this Test match he showed his character, he was very calm and played on the merit of the ball. And we all know he has that ability to play Test cricket. And as top order batsman, we want someone to impact for the team and he delivered this match. (Is this Bangladesh cricket's finest moment?) Yeah, obviously I think this is the biggest win so far for Bangladesh cricket in any format. We believe that and going forward we will do something special in the future. (On the next Test in Mackay and whether there's enough evidence they can get a clean sweep?) Yes, we have that evidence but we need to play good cricket. As I said before this Test match, we need to play five days of good cricket. So again, I am going to say the same thing, five days of cricket need to play properly. And then as we did this Test match, follow the process and play session by session. Bowlers did their job, batsmen chipped in and especially the lower middle order and the lower order, the way they batted. So those are the things we need to play in Mackay.
Najmul Hossain Shanto | Bangladesh captain (1/1): (On becoming the first Bangladesh captain to win a Test match on Australian soil) Yeah, very happy and proud of myself and the way boys played, really proud of that. And we did a lot of hard work and really happy to win with this side. (On their fine victory, honing their fast bowling skills and has there been a recent mindset shift to not only rely on spin?) Yeah, obviously I think that is the biggest change in Bangladesh cricket in Test format. Normally in five, six years before, the pace bowlers didn't want to play Test cricket because we didn't get enough chance to play Test cricket. But last two, three years we've been playing a lot of Test matches and boys are getting importance in the Test format. So they now want to play and they want to perform because they want to be world class. So that is the mindset they have there and especially the senior guys we have, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mominul Haque, they help them a lot to encourage to play Test cricket.
Pat Cummins | Australia captain: (Can he pinpoint one area where the defeat started?) Probably that day one. You know, I thought our preparation was pretty much spot on. I thought it was excellent. So, no excuses. They played really well. I thought the day one wicket was doing a little bit early, but obviously got to try and find a way to bat a little bit longer than we did, and then, just couldn't penetrate with the ball. But, I thought they played really well. (On their batters not capitalising on a few good starts and thoughts of any changes?) I think every time there's a game like this, you always kind of look at your match-ups and your make-up of the team for the next one. But, we only just finished, so we'll have a think about it. We're pretty good at bouncing back, so no doubt the batters and every group will get together and have a good think about this one and where we can improve. (On Bangladesh having played well) Yeah, they did. I think they outplayed us in all facets, really. I thought they were really patient and quite disciplined. And, yeah, once we were behind, it was really hard to get back. (On Hazlewood picking up 300 wickets and on Green's century) Josh, he hasn't had a great run for injuries the last couple of years, but he's one of the hardest workers and just showed his class. And, you know, didn't have too much in it, seam-wise, still picking up six really important wickets. So he was fantastic. And then Greeny, again, I thought, the tempo of this innings showed how good he is. Yeah, just needed a couple of us to hang around with him, but it was fantastic.
Hasan Mahmud | Player of the Match: (Did you have any specific plan during your practice sessions?) We gave it our all every single second during our pre-match practice sessions, keeping a clear mindset to trust our process and focus on the execution rather than the end result. We were fully prepared to grind it out over all five days, knowing the results would naturally follow. (Any specific plans against the mighty Australian line-up?) Although we had specific team plans mapped out with the coaches and analysts after studying video footage, executing those plans consistently out on the field was what made the difference. (Enjoyed bowling in these conditions?) Bowling first on a grassy pitch still required immense patience and persistence, it was all about sticking to disciplined lines and lengths, delivery after delivery. (On celebrations back home?) Back home in Bangladesh, my family, friends, and hometown community will be thrilled seeing me back in the bowling rotation and performing well. I know they will be celebrating this moment, and that means everything to me.
Mehidy (2/2): (On their captain Shanto) Yes, I think he is a very good captain, and he makes very good decisions at the right times. And in these conditions, I think Hassan, he took six wickets in the first innings, and the second innings, we took the six wickets with spin. So, this combination, I think it would be better for our team. And I think in these conditions, it spins a little bit in the morning and the footmarks were there. I just try to bowl in the footmark all the times, and they have turned. (What does this win mean back home?) I think everybody is happy, I think, back home in the country. And I think they are having a proud moment, and I think they are very much enjoying. Lots of crowd coming, Bangladeshis. Thank you very much for coming and supporting us. And I think they believe that we can win the match. That's why we win the match. Thank you very much to the crowd.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz (1/1): (On their outstanding achievement) Definitely, I think it was an excellent, great moment for us. And after a long time we've been here, and it was an excellent performance by the team and the way we're playing, and it shows our character. Everything is perfect, I think so. (On his century in the tour match motivating them?) Yes, still we have a belief. And after the practice match, after we losing, we have to think about, like, yes, it's a great opportunity for us in this condition. After a long time we came here, and they are a very good team, and there are world-class players. They have lots of good players, and if we beat them, it would be great for our country and our cricket. And it's giving one message, we have to believe. Otherwise, we can't go through. Yeah, I think we have to believe as a whole unit. And we just think about how to perform in these conditions. And as a team unit, we bowl well and we bat well at the perfect times. And, you know, Tamim and Shadman, the way they batted in the first 10 overs, and Tamim, he took a hundred, and Shanto, they showed their batting, and Mominul doing very well. And then later on, I think it was an excellent partnership with Hasan, Taskin, and Taijul. They give me opportunity because if they get out, I can't score. I just say one thing, we have to stay there, and they are a very good attack, and we have to play positive and don't think about the bowling, who is coming, and just play the ball all the times. And we just think about like that.

Bangladesh is the quickest Asian team to register its first Test win on Australian soil, doing so in just 3 Tests, ahead of Pakistan (7) and India (12), while Sri Lanka remains winless after 15 attempts.
Bangladesh’s 9-wicket win is their second-biggest Test victory by wickets, behind their 10-wicket win over Pakistan in Rawalpindi in 2024.
Australia have lost a home Test to an Asian team other than India for the first time in 31 years, since 1995.
This is Bangladesh’s second Test win in SENA countries after their famous victory in Mount Maunganui in 2022.
This is Bangladesh’s first Test win in Australia in three matches. It is also just their second win over Australia in seven Tests, after the 2017 Mirpur triumph.
The ball was in their court and they capitalised. Hasan Mahmud was once again incisive and finished with 9 wickets in the game while it was Mehidy who gave it a rip and weaved his magic (5/66) to run through the Australian middle and lower order. Green stood tall amongst the ruins as he raised a maiden Test ton on home soil but it wasn’t nearly enough as the others left a lot to be desired. Bangladesh needed just 57 to win. Tanzid departed for a duck but the duo of Shadman and Mominul were clinical and ensured that there were no further hiccups as they took their team to the finish line with consummate ease. Special mention to the Bangladeshi batters - they had to tackle the elite trio of Starc, Hazlewood and Cummins and they did that with utmost conviction.
Coming back to the game, Cummins won the toss and chose to bat but it backfired on the hosts. Led by the young Hasan Mahmud who was highly impressive and recorded his career-best figures (6/55), the other seamers also chipped in to take all ten wickets to shot Australia out for 198. Tanzid laid the platform for them with a superb maiden Test ton while vital contributions from Mominul, Shanto and Mehidy ensured that the visitors took a massive 228-run lead.
14:38 Local Time, 05:08 GMT, 10:38 IST: Bangladesh have pulled off the unthinkable! They have humbled the No. 1 Test playing nation in their own backyard! This is one of the biggest upsets in modern-day Test cricket! Who would have given them a chance especially after they were bowled out for 54 and lost by an innings against CA XI last week at this very venue? But they have not only silenced the cricketing pundits with this performance but have literally blown them away. They have developed a tough character and an ideal mix for a variety of conditions. Australia is one of the toughest countries to tour in red-ball cricket. This is not just a convincing win for Bangladesh, it’s a statement to all other nations that they can be a force to reckon with even in away conditions.

Webster to Mominul, FOUR, Mominul finishes it off in style! What a magical moment for Bangladesh - they have beaten Australia in Australia for the first time in Tests! Their dug out is ecstatic! Their supporters near the dug out are in unison and have beaming smiles on their faces. Their players though are pretty calm and cheerful with no over the top celebrations. This team believes in itself and it is showing in the body language of the players. Coming back to the ball, it was short and wide. Mominul cashed in and slapped it fiercely to the deep backward point fence. Both Mominul Haque and Shadman Islam exchange hugs
