PLAYER OF THE MATCH
That's all from this game. We will be back tomorrow with more action. For now, goodbye and stay safe..
Imran Tahir: [On winning the toss and successfully chasing after the rain delays] Yeah, I think our seamers, they started really well, and I think with us, all the experienced guys in the middle, I think Khary Pierre, he's been unbelievable. He bowled really, really well in every game. So yeah, it's something that helped us big time in powerplay. But like I said, three (spinners) of us, we can bowl in powerplay. We've got experience. But it was a good performance from the boys as a bowling group. [On the intensity and focus within the group] We've been playing together from GSL, and most of the guys been playing together from a couple of years. So, we know different venues in Caribbean, how we need to apply ourselves. And I think it's all come with experience. Coming here today, show a lot of professionalism. I think, to be honest with you, we got a little bit stuck, I think from the batting point of view in the last 4-5 overs. But, we've got guys down the order who can hit the ball. So, I mean, that's the benefit for us. And we knew, one of the guys is going to come right, and then, we can chase this score down easily. But obviously our bowling team, we want to improve, could have seen that we could have done it in 17 overs. [On the opening partnership between Phillips and Dindyal] He's playing his second game in CPL. So, a lot of pressure. Forde was bowling to him and he's a senior bowler swinging the ball both ways. I guess, good experience for him. But the way he fought back and got runs, and I think on the other side, that's Phillips' job, being a senior player, giving him confidence that how he can build his innings. And I think that's where the senior players come to the picture and trying to help the youngsters. And I think that's what he did brilliantly today. [On whether this is the strongest squad he has assembled in his CPL career] I think so. But we always have good players and stuff like that. But I think how you come and play the game and pitch every different venue, you really want it, or are you just there to just play another game of cricket? For us, I think as a group, we really take pride in ourselves and we know we're representing Guyana, we're representing the badge, and we're representing ourselves. And we don't want to take things for granted. I mean, it's really nice to see that we're gelling really well. Everybody's trying to do their job, and it's really nice to see as a captain, you feel really happy about it at the end.
Roston Chase: [On whether losing the toss was instrumental in the result] I don't think so. I think whatever you do first, you have to do it well. But I thought we were 25 runs short. I thought we never really got going with the bat. At no stage we were really in control with the bat. So we struggled to get 150-odd, and I didn't think that that was enough initially. [On the batting slowdown after the powerplay] Yeah, it is fine that we keep losing wickets in critical conditions when we start to build a partnership, and then when it's time to pull the trigger, that's when we lose the wickets, and then the guy coming in has to rebuild again. And then we lose that momentum, and then we never really seem to finish well in the last five. [On the team's struggles to take wickets early and the fielding lapses] Yeah, when you're defending a small total, I think it's necessary to get wickets in the powerplay. We didn't do that today. That's something that we've been doing well, but we didn't really get any wickets. I think that was because the score wasn't too much, so they didn't have to go too hard at us in the powerplay to create those chances. And then, as you said, in the middle overs, when we did create those chances, we didn't hold on to them. So that was our downfall tonight. [On the message to the team after their third defeat in five matches] Yeah, I think it's going to be the same thing because we keep making the same mistakes. So it's just for the guys to really focus hard and try to eliminate those mistakes that we've been making. And that's the only way we can go forward from here. [On Tim Seifert's availability for Friday] Yes, hopefully he is here.
Dwaine Pretorius | Player of the Match - [On the bond between the team, ownership and fans, and what it means to play for Guyana again] I love playing for Guyana. I think that was again a really good team performance, just like the Jamaican game. I think everyone did their role really, really well. Great opening partnership there from our youngster (Mavendra Dindyal), who is only playing his second game, and then obviously Glenn (Phillips) brought a lot of experience. I think that was a great performance from the boys. [On his preparation and plans for the opposition batters in the powerplay] Look, the power play, it's a coin toss on the day who's day it's going to be. They hit a few really good shots off me. I had to go to my Plan B and Plan C options, and luckily for me today those turned out to be wickets. Just as they started going, just as they created some momentum, we kept taking wickets. But right through it, I think Shamar (Joseph) bowled beautifully today, Immy (Tahir), KP (Khary Pierre), and Sheppy (Romario Shepherd) also bowled really, really well. So I think it was a great team performance again. The same goes for the batting; Hetty (Shimron Hetmyer) and Simo (Quentin Sampson) came in at the end and just finished it off. [On his opening bowling partnership with Pierre] I think we pride ourselves on not giving away too many freebies in that first few overs. I think sometimes when you search too much for wickets, that tends to happen. If they hit you off a good length and a good shot, you know, on wickets like these, they might just go up in the air the second time around. So I think he's been really consistent, really nice bowling with him as well. Like I say, he doesn't give them a flyer, and I'm trying my best not to do the same. [On the support from the Guyanese fans] I mean our fans are really awesome. Wherever we go, they're there, they're supporting us. I mean, that's what's really cool about playing for the Warriors. Wherever we go, we've got a really good fan base. Thank you so much for all the support.
23:24 Local Time, 03:24 GMT, 08:54 IST: Guyana Amazon Warriors made it tighter than it should have been. They could have chased it down sooner, but they have got the important two points and that's what matters. Chasing 152, Glenn Phillips got the boundaries away in the powerplay even as Mavendra Dindyal struggled at the other end. But the openers kept up with the asking rate and added 79 runs. The platform was set but Dindyal's 51-ball fifty slowed things down a bit and kept St Lucia Kings in the game. When 37 was needed from the last four overs, the game could have gone either way, but Quentin Sampson struck a couple of sixes off Theekshana and Hetmyer finished it off with a flurry of fours against van Schalkwyk. In the end, they chased it down with 11 balls to spare and go top of the table. Hang around for the presentations..

Maheesh Theekshana to Quentin Sampson, SIX, is that the game sealing shot? Back to back sixes from Sampson. He's come out and grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck. Once again waits deep in the crease for Theekshana to fire it in, heaves it high into the leg-side and clears a leaping fielder near deep square leg

Maheesh Theekshana to Quentin Sampson, SIX, has it gone the distance? Comfortably. Sampson enjoyed that and so did Hetmyer. Maheesh Theekshana to Shai Hope, out Caught by Andries Gous!! This game ain't over. The Kings needed a wicket and Theekshana has given them a big one. Another quick short of length delivery, Hope looks to pull but the extra bounce deceives him, he toe-ends it and Gous takes a sharp catch behind the stumps. It was the carrom ball and replays show Hope was a bit early into the shot. Shai Hope c Andries Gous b Maheesh Theekshana 17(17) [4s-1]
